After completing the series of conservation events “Pride of Pu Mat” deployed at 16 schools of Anh Son, Con Cuong, Tuong Duong districts, more than 1,600 registration forms to join the “Together protect Pu Mat forest” club were distributed from students to nominate to become members of the club. At the beginning of February 2024, Save Vietnam’s Wildlife also received more than 1,317 applications to join the club from students of 16 primary and secondary schools. With the desire to be chosen as one of the young members of the club to propagate their knowledge and understanding, the students were very invested in their application. In order for the students don’t have to wait too long, the organizing committee also worked very hard day and night to select the best students to join the club, and above are the 80 selected members.

On March 1st and 3rd 2024, Save Vietnam’s Wildlife, in collaboration with Pu Mat National Park, organized a training club “Together protect Pu Mat forest” as well as a meeting to introduce 96 students and teachers of 16 primary and secondary schools in Anh Son, Con Cuong, Tuong Duong districts. On March 1, 2024, the clubs of 6 primary schools were introduced and acquainted with each other, participating in activities such as: Networking to better understand the relationships of natural elements, unifying the activities of the Club “Together protect Pu Mat forest”, participating and coordinating activities and tasks of club and understanding more about the threats of species, especially elephants. On the secondary school side, on March 3, 2024, 10 secondary schools in 3 districts of Anh Son, Con Cuong, Tuong Duong also got to know each other and participated in similar activities. In addition, the clubs have worked together to create action plans to protect wildlife and nature to jointly implement at each club’s school.

Club “Together protect Pu Mat forest” with the participation of 02 forest rangers, 16 teachers and 80 students of 16 schools in the buffer zone of Pu Mat National Park, 03 anti poaching (SVW) and 02 community engagement officers (SVW), these are the forces that will pioneer in the work of protecting nature and wildlife in Pu Mat National Park.

The club training program “Together protect Pu Mat forest” is one of the components of the Pu Mat National Park Nature and Wildlife Conservation Education Program for the period 2023 – 2025, and this It is also a training session on skills and knowledge for students to become little propagandists to help spread love and call on people to take meaningful action to preserve nature and support wildlife.

Through the club training session “Together protect Pu Mat forest”, nearly 100% of students and teachers improved their understanding of nature’s diversity and identification of wild animals. In particular, students who are members of the “Together protect Pu Mat forest” club commit to agreeing to protect nature and wild animals through the following actions: (1) Not eating meat and do not use products made from illegal wildlife; (2). Speak out against people using, advertising, or selling illegal wildlife; (3). Notify hotline 0966 000 353 when detecting illegal hunting, trading, transporting, advertising, captivity and consumption of wildlife.

About Nature and Wildlife Conservation Education Program, period 2023-2025
The Education Program of nature and wildlife conservation includes 07 components that will be implemented throughout the two school years 2023 – 2024 and 2024 – 2025. The program will implement for 16 schools in the buffer zone of Pu Mat national park of Anh Son, Con Cuong and Tuong Duong. 7 main activities include: Survey facilities of school; Build a core team to protect Pu Mat forest including forest rangers, anti-poaching of SVW, and teachers; Conservation event “Our pride, our Pu Mat”; “Join me to protect Pu Mat forest” Club; Implement projects to raise pupil and community awareness by the core team; Building an educational program to experience nature; Experience nature.

About Pu Mat National Park
Pu Mat National Park was originally Pu Mat Nature Reserve, and it was upgraded to National Park according to Decision No.174/2001/QD-TTg dated November 8, 2001, issued by the Prime Minister. Pu Mat is one of the three core areas of the Western Nghe An Biosphere Reserve, with special-use forests cover a total of 94,715.4 ha and a buffer zone of 86,000 ha. Pu Mat National Park is of great biodiversity importance and it is the home of many endangered species that have extremely high risks of extinction, and should be prioritized for conservation.
