ONE BREAKFAST
The third Friday of May every year is Endangered Species Day.
According to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, more than 40,000 animal and plant species are now threatened with extinction, including iconic creatures like gray wolves, rhinos, and pangolins.
A report on the state of global ecosystems released by the United Nations in 2019 said that up to one million plant and animal species are at risk of extinction because of human activities (Refer: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-019-01448-4)
The figures are not used to criticize or condemn anyone, rather, to educate us about how fragile the existence of some animals and plants in the world is – and most importantly, to remind us that we should take time to learn about the importance of protecting endangered species from human threats.
On May 20th, 2022 SVW launched a new campaign in which each of us can join hands to fight the threats that are putting wildlife species in Vietnam at risk of extinction.
“ONE BREAKFAST” CAMPAIGN
Breakfast is often believed as ‘the most important meal of the day’, and for good reason. It provides key nutrients, helps combat diseases, and kicks off your day.
The name “One Breakfast” implies a symbolic message: Saving endangered species needs no complex actions; with only “One Breakfast” donated, you have contributed to the efforts of saving the animals in Vietnam from going extinct.
Even the smallest things make the biggest impact. “One Breakfast” is launched to encourage everyone to together show their interests in animals and take any possible actions within their capability, even the simplest ones. Every action matters in the rescue of endangered species.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Problems are caused by the savagery of bad guys, but often persisted by the silence of the good ones. "One Breakfast" provides an opportunity for everyone to change – to come to a consensus – and act together.
Launched on Endangered Species Day, the "One Breakfast" campaign will initially target students, young people who are the next generation to make changes in the world.
GOALS
“One Breakfast” has two main goals:
1. Raising awareness of Vietnamese people in general and young people in particular about the need to save wild animals, to solve environmental problems, and protect the world that humans live in.
2. Calling for everyone's cooperation. Step by step, little by little – as long as we are consistent with the set goals and the strength of teamwork, we will achieve great goals. With just 'One Breakfast', you can help contribute to Vietnam's wildlife protection efforts.
