AN – The Masked Palm Civet Education Ambassador.
An is one of 230 masked palm civets rescued in May 2025 from an illegal wildlife farming facility.
During captivity, she lived in poor conditions and was fed inappropriate food such as rice porridge and pig feed. When she arrived at the Rescue Center, An was underweight, stressed, and constantly fearful — clear signs of long-term trauma. Spending too much time away from her natural habitat caused her to lose many of the survival skills needed to live in the wild.
After being rescued, An received medical care and joined a behavioral rehabilitation program. However, the lasting impacts of captivity mean she is no longer able to return to the wild.
Today, An lives permanently at the center alongside two other masked palm civets who also cannot be released. Her name, An, means peace and safety — something she truly deserves after her time in confinement.
An’s story reminds us that:
• Life in captivity can quietly take away an animal’s wild instincts
• The choices we make today will decide whether wildlife can still belong in the forest tomorrow
