Otters are seriously threatened by illegal hunting, trade, habitat loss, and pollution. Not only are they killed for their fur or lose their homes through habitat loss, but they also face being trapped and sold to become a human’s pet.
This November, Save Vietnam’s Wildlife welcomed 10 Asian Small-clawed Otters to our center. We also rescued one out of three individuals (two died before we arrived) last year.
Every time our Rapid Response Team rescued these otters, they were found in very poor condition, having been kept in very small cages for several days. Many of them were starving, dehydrated, injured … and frightened.
